Working hard...what do you think now?

Ruthy's picture

I did some really great illustrator tutorials and managed to work on the winged lion. If you commented and gave me advice on the first attempt, thank you. I would appreciate some feedback at this point. I also placed the lion above the text and used the copperplate typeface that was suggested by several people here. The lion is far less detailed and I printed this out at about 1cm wide in white on black and I could still easily see the lion.

For some reason, I can only see the preview image in the left sidebar. Your full size image errors out.

From what I can see the logotype has too much leading and doesn't match the logo proportionally. Try to arrive at more balance between them. Good start!

I agree - the leading is set too high, so bring the value down.
Also, it looks odd where the hind legs of the lion don't sit on the same level as the front.

Yes, I didn't even check that.
And the lions back foot being higher, I was wondering if someone would mention it. It did bother me but in the original photograph of the stone lion the back foot traced higher, I think it was something to do with the angle the photo was taken.
Might be tricky to fix that but hopefully with my new illustrator skills it will be alright.
Thank you!

could the reason for the error be that the file is in CMYK colour mode? I think the thumbnail might be auto converted. No clue.

Hit A on your keyboard to use the selection tool. Drag over the back foot and select the lower nodes. I think just dragging that down should suffice. Should look ok. See how it goes.
