Zoom in on your screen with a Mighty Mouse

Remember the article about how to Zoom in on your screen?

There is a twist to if you use Apple's Mighty Mouse. Simply press and hold the CTRL button and scroll with the nipple up and down. Moving the mouse around will allow you to pan on the screen.

This is a great tool if you need to show something on your screen to a collegue across the room or need to zoom in on a small icon to see the details for yourself.

Hi Ivan,

I've got that zoom on, but no matter how much I roll that nipple wgile simultaneously holding down CTRL, it won't zoom in and out. Do you have to activate this function somewhere?

Not that I'm aware of.

This works most likely on all mouses, at least on my year old logitech bluetooth travel mouse. I've never encountered it before though, so it might be related to the new os update.

That could be it,

I'm on 10.4.7 - It might be a 10.4.8 thing. So let me run that update...

(Do we update for these little nifties? Probably, that's why I love Mac to begin with.)

That is entirely possible.

It seems to be a 10.4.8 feature. Since it works now.

If you keep your ears open, you'll see better.

Thanks for the confirmation.

In 10.4.7, this was only working with a Mighty Mouse but since 10.4.8, this works with any mouse.

This is indeed a function of 10.4.8. It works with all mice, and it even works with the trackpad on newer laptops (use two-finger scrolling). There are options you can configure in the 'Keyboard & Mouse' pref pane, for setting modifier key, cursor behavior, etc...
