Working from home

TylerR_NKY's picture

I'm assuming this DATA ENTRY JOB post is spam. Anyway, if I can't find a new job in visual communication before my unemployment runs out I'll need something fast. Honestly, I got a sweet design set-up at home and wouldn't mind boring work as a day job.

Is there any decent paying, full time, steady, "work from home" jobs out there? Data entry or other?

None that don't ask you for

None that don't ask you for several payments of $19.95 first. :) Go out there and get some work my friend!

Nato beat me to it...

Sure, but you have to steadily go out, get it, drag it home and kill it.

All that, and no benefits other than setting your own schedule. Which is worth it all to me.

Also, if you think you hate your boss now, just wait until you're self-employed.

There are a lot of suppliers

There are a lot of suppliers in the world so you will need to deliver something that works for the way your client works. ie. If you thrive on last minute rush jobs, clients that work in high change/high stress markets will mesh well with you. It's all about finding the clients that fit you and you them.

+1. And ya gotta get used to

+1. And ya gotta get used to the fact that a lot of the work available out there isn't exactly of the "portfolio stuffer" variety.

Totally Agree

I have been doing freelance since 2003, and basically been doing it 100% since I got laid off in December. For me, it's not my thing as I prefer to have somewhere to go and people to socialize with. I'm more motivated that way.

However, that being said, I would say the majority of the work that I have been doing freelance for, I wouldn't put in my portfolio, unfortunately.

As much as I hate to admit it...

...working from home sucks most of the time.
It's easy to get distracted, even if you don't it can be very lonely.
Sure in theory you can set your hours but if a client wants to contact you while you've decided to nip to the supermarket and they have an urgent amendment then it has pitfalls.

I thought it's be my dream job working from home, it isn't. I enjoy working at multiple locations, I hate sitting in the same office day after day, having to be in at the same time every morning and leave at the same time each evening.
Flexibility is great but I personally can't freelance full time.

Since there are so many

Since there are so many hours in a day it really limits your earning potential too. I discovered, after working my tail off 60-80 hours/week, that the little extra money I kept (after taxes) wasn't worth the missed family time.

Now I freelance for just that little extra cash. I've decided to stop taking any new clients as well.
