What is going on with the world

Ed McMahon, Farah Fawcett, Michael Jackson

and now Billy Mays, the world's best pitchman. Oxiclean, OrangeGlo.
Geez it's going to be a bad year for celebs.

This celebrity death thing is getting out of hand. The next step in this cult of celebrity will be an international outpouring of virtual grief for an avatar. Merely for the fact their name is known online. Imagine grieving for someone you haven't met and don't know. Or for someone who never existed. And people with multiple, fake, online personas will be grieved for more than once and often simultaneously over their virtual lives and deaths. Personally I'd rather die anonymously, and therein lies the paradox. I'll die anonymously and yet burdened with the fame of being omnipresent. I am very prolific online and yet relatively unknown. You can go to 99% of forums and find me there, and yet I do not exist.

Irene Cara and I see eye to eye in this regard:

I'm gonna live forever
Baby remember my name
Remember
Remember
Remember
Remember
Remember
Remember
Remember

Do not be afraid of the unknown. Familiarity breeds contempt.

I, too, am unable to grieve the loss of a person I have never known.

I am now going to moonwalk my ass back to work.

Paddle faster, I hear banjos.

I can't say I'm sorry to see Billy Mays go. I'm sorry it had to be through death, but the guy was incredibly annoying and I won't miss him.

As for the rest of them, it's sad, but people live and people die. That's the cycle. Not sure how their death is any more or less tragic than the people that die every day that you never hear about.

All part of the natural cycle. Just a big ordeal because these are names a vast population recognizes instead of the death of some Jane Doe or whomever.
