Google marries Digg
Google is experimenting and will soon launch a new social bookmarking and commenting service that is much like Digg, but will work on any keyword. This may change the way SEO is done and I can already see hordes of fakers trying to manipulate the system.

I agree
Any system where people vote on what appears higher on a list is bound to be "gamed" by people. The fact that this will be a Google site/feature means that TONS of people will be "cheating" to get their stuff ranked higher.
I'm not a huge fan of the "social" trend going on right now. It's easy to ignore most of it. But with Google getting involved, you almost can't ignore it, and we'll be forced to put up with any ill side-effects.

I think Google is smart
I think Google is smart enough to separate this service from their SEO programs.

Google
Google always has to stick their nose in everything... which isn't necessarily a bad thing, if done right.

Am I missing something here?
From what I saw from that video, when you rank pages higher they appear higher in the list. But I think that's only when you're signed in and only appears when YOU are browsing. So if the site you frequently search for is 4th you can rank it higher in order to make it easier for you to find it next time. Surely this can't appear on everybody elses browser????
But if I'm wrong, this is a really stupid idea, because yes, people will just be there clicking on their sites all day!!

I think your vote somewhat
I think your vote somewhat influences other people's results as well, but not exclusively. Your vote will be one of the many variables that determines the position of a site for a certain keyword.
