Yahoo Analytics
KellyR (393 points) | Sat, 2009-11-21 00:29We've recently added Yahoo's Analytics to our sites, and I was very surprised to see they're actually tracking gender and age. I'm wondering how they actually manage to track this (accurately at that!)
I'm still new to their analytics tool, so I've yet to find an answer on their own site. Was just wondering if anyone here knew how this is working offhand.
I'll continue my search for answers in their help documentation, too.
Thanks!
Which media has no future?
www.jackmancer.com (112 points) | Fri, 2009-11-20 13:51Time to look ahead in time. There are a lot of media, I don't think it's possible to name them all but many are well accepted, such as internet, television, newspapers, magazines, flyers/brochures, radio, billboards, sponsoring and more recently, social media and in-game advertising.
Question though: What media has no future?
I'm not speaking for myself here, I'm just interested, but it might help some people to know what media you guys (the professionals) think is going to dissapear? Why? Think about studying a media that is not there anymore in the next 10 years...
For example, I know internet is taking a huge grow in the past few years and print has shrinked, but will print dissapear and internet take over, or will there always be a certain balance?
Looking forward to hear more thoughts about this matter.
Tips for a Beginning Freelancer
stefllz (30 points) | Tue, 2009-11-17 08:16Hello all :)
Relatively new to the world of creativebits but wondering if anyone is able to give me some helpful advice.
i'm a second year advertising and design student and have been doing small jobs here and there for friends and family, like flyers, business identities and invitations, but wanted to make it a little more regular by marketing myself as a freelance designer. As an advertising student that parts easy, but I'm stumped as to how much I should be charging for certain services and wanted some words of wisdom from those in the know.
Figures may be different as I'm located in Melbourne, Australia. But a general idea would be super helpful, as well as some tips to get me up and running.
Thanks,
Stefllz.
Shall we ban fake Steve Ballmer
Ivan | Tue, 2009-11-17 07:18I hate to ban anyone, but Steve Ballmer is spamming the topics with nothing but "funny" Mac bashing comments. I start to believe that the only reason for the comments is to promote his blog in his signature. Here I see three scenarios, and I'd like to get your opinion:
1. We don't do anything.
2. We allow him to stay with the condition that he removes the link in signature.
3. We ban him.
Thanks!
Best External Hard Drives for Mac
The Letter D (20 points) | Tue, 2009-11-17 01:40Hey everyone, I'm finally in the market for an external hard drive and I'm trying to find the best ones that work well with macs.
I know a lot of you out there have them and I'm hoping for some buying advice. I'm looking for nothing bigger than 500GB and looking to spend around $100.
Thanks for your help.

Connecting Wacom Intuos 2
jermangarc (6 points) | Mon, 2009-11-16 21:38Hey all,
I'm brand new to this forum and also new to the Mac OSX. I own a MacBook Pro 2008 version. I also own a Wacom Intuos 2 tablet with a serial cable that I used on my older PC. I since then bought a serial to USB adapter from Radio Shack to connect my tablet to my PC and it worked fine. Presently I work on a Mac and I'd like to get my tablet to work on it. I found a driver on Apple's website:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/drivers/pl2303usbtoserialdriver.html
I installed the driver but the Mac still does not recognize the tablet. I found some information on: http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-769327.html
; but I have no idea what any of this means. I gather that I have to type in a command in the "terminal" to get the tablet to work. HELP!
I really appreciate it.
captchas vs spam
gwells (1411 points) | Thu, 2009-11-12 16:25seeing a lot more captcha in my posts the last couple of days. totally understand what the deal is, with so much spam. but it's pretty much every comment i make at this point.
i wonder, though, with the whole "pencils" concept, if there isn't a way to exempt posters with more than XXX pencils? those of us unlikely to spam.
Flash ActionScript. Anyone else out there struggling to learn it?
riskart1 (104 points) | Wed, 2009-11-11 23:05I come from the old school of print. Now, everyone wants you to know print and web.
Fine. I take some classes. I am comfortable with Dream Weaver, have taken my intro and begging class to Flash (comfortable with that also).
Now, I'm taking a class in ActionScript and loosing my mind.
Any other designers out there have any insight to wrapping my head around this foreign language?
And, just how important is it for me to know?
thanks,
