palmetto bowtique recount

So definitely an improvement in my book. The only thing I'm not sure about with this one is the font her name and contact info is in. Changing all the colors to be the same wouldn't be hard. I didn't think the color variety would hurt anything though. Is it possible to get the bow printed in the back like that without messing everything up?

I really dislike this whole design. I don't like colors, design and typo. I say restart fresh.
You need to ask yourself why you make certain choices. Do things with a bit more thought. For instance, why did you place the pink so big across the card? Why these colours? Why the copy on that place or was it simply... because there was no other place left?
You need to do things less intuitively. Try harder.
we can consider it a great advance from the last all pink bc
I need to see your boutique's products and store photos.
maybe it could be perfect for the target.
maybe Good for Amy Winhouse or Lilly Allen style fans? I dunno but pink is for pinky girls maybe it is not so wrong.
Ronaldo! xD
There is not enough visual hierarchy, my eye stops on the palm tree and doesn't know where to go from there.
Looking at the logo you have, I'd say you need to revisit it completely. You have the tree there because the word 'palm' is in 'palmetto'. but what does a palm tree say about the business of selling bow ties? Also- the tree is so generic that it fails to separate itself from all the other logos w/ palm trees. Finally, the tree is completely disconnected from the word. The type is loose, airy, and handwritten- the tree is huge blocky and rigid. There needs to be a cohesion and a sense of interaction between the 2 elements. I think the moon is also apart of the logo just because its in the same green, but it does nothing. I hope you get the sense that you need to completely restart this logo over.
I know you're going for a sweet and personable look to the font in the top right, but it just says childish and cheap. You need to be picking and playing with a lot of fonts- your selling the business short when you decide on the first one that SEEMS satisfactory.
The bow is only put there so you actually get across a message that "hey i sell bows" but again, that needs to be in your logo. It's way too big and either looks pixelated or poorly live-traced.
I don't think you took any advice in finding business cards you liked and don't like and figuring out the reasons for both.
The wife didn't like the font. She liked the font that was in the other one so I went back to it.
Here in South Carolina the Palmetto tree is a big deal. They are hair bows for little girls, not bow ties. Also a big deal here. Didn't really convey that to you guys, but when she gives it to another woman here in this state they will know exactly what she is talking about.
the fashion scene need to be provocative and I agree with you.
the TARGET is only thing you can attempt.
take some photos of products from shop.
Ronaldo! xD
I'm sure there's a less kitsch way to represent the things your wife wants on her card. This card looks like something someone would create in paint. That moon isn't doing you any favours either.
Research similar shops on the internet and see what they are doing design-wise.

I meant hairbows!
The tree doesn't work because it doesn't say anything about your BUSINESS. and again, the moon needs to go. I tell you, it will be BAD design until that moon goes- it has absolutely nothing to say about your business and is cluttering space up.
Hopefully, you will change things drastically by your next revision. I'd say go for a decorative font for the logo, but use a legible font for the information- when done right. it'll help give visual hierarchy and contrast.
We are all telling you the same thing: this card is cheap looking, tasteless and juvenile. If that's your target market, good luck to you.

All of the elements look like they're floating. Random. Like not a lot of thought was put into placement.
Kinda looks like it was churned out in Word or Powerpoint with clipart.
The good news is it's a definite improvement over the last one. The bad news is everyone preceding me was right - this is still not working. Every critique above is valid, but let me just clarify 3 important points here...
Although the Palmetto tree is popular in your area - that doesn't mean you need the actual tree on the card. The word alone is enough - people get the connection - you don't need to beat them over the head with it. Besides that, using the tree as an "L" looks amateurish. Your card (as is) would improve right off the bat by removing the tree and the moon and just spelling out the word normally.
The bow is very clip-arty in a bad way. It's not going to attract sales as opposed to say - taking a photo of your top 5 ribbon colors lined up in a row and using that on the card somewhere as accent art. This will not add to the print cost and people will see what you are actually selling - not something you got from the MS clip art collection.
The font is horrific. Maybe your wife loves it. She's wrong. I'm saying it so you don't have to - just show her this thread.
All that said - again this IS an improvement over the last one, so you're headed in the right direction. You just haven't arrived at your destination yet. This is your BUSINESS - take the time to do it RIGHT and don't settle for this.
Thanks Art. I was getting a little depressed from some of the this sucks start over. Thank you for the suggestions from those who gave them.
No problem - the thread was starting to get the whiff of a beat down to me too.
Another thing you can do - btw - is check out the stock photography options for ribbons & bows. Just google "stock photography" and you'll get a lot of hits. Do a search for "bows" on the site and you should get tons of hits there too. For a couple dollars (seriously - $2 or $3 on some sites) - you can get professional quality stock photography to use in your card. Make sure you buy art with unlimited usage (it will say it on the website somewhere) and you can use the same photo as many times as you like - for mailers, catalog covers, whatever. It's really an amazing bargain that I use all the time in my work.

I was thinking that you don't need a tree in the word palmetto to let people know what palmetto means. Everybody already knows. So why not use the two Ts as an opportunity to work a hair bow into the logotype? I'm not sure if that has possibilities, but it did occur to me.
I think you're getting the dumping because we're all frustrated that you don't seem to be grasping the design basics we've all [pointed out to you.
It would be so helpful if you gave up the neon green and pink and strted working, instead, in plain black and white, or pencil-gray until you come up with a design that really works. Then you can introduce color.
I disagree about using stock photos of bows, which you'll have to mask and plop on top of vector art/fonts. That's almost inevitably going to have an entry-level look to it. I'd be delighted to see you prove me wrong, though, so try it and see what happens! :-)
Mara
Not that I want to "prove you wrong", but there are all kinds of stock photos available - even some that come silhouetted. But I was thinking more like background art or something...

Obviously I don't know what is appropriate for little girls, but a search for "bows" turned up 140 pages of photos - individual bows, girls wearing bows, bows that look like they're tied around the card etc... etc... Any of them would be better than clip art. It's also a great place just to get ideas.
Good input, ArtD :-) I'm thinking, though, that anything photographic will have to be skillfully worked into the overall design, then beautifully printed to look its best. I'm not sure that's realistic in this case.
Mara
Thanks. The design is always a question of course, but I've used these stock photos right out of the bag with online digital printers and they come out fine. A more hands-on printer will obviously yield even better results. But if the choice is clip art or a stock photo - I'd go with a photo every time.
As always... jmho.
You might want to find a different palmetto tree and moon as well
