New Business Card Idea
pmathews (29 points) | Sat, 2009-11-07 21:21Im back with some new ideas for my personal business cards. The lines in the back will not be printed but will only be spot varnished. Im am looking to create a card that can be passed out to try to farm some freelance work. I am a print designer only (for now looking at learning more about web design) and I think that most of these cards will be passed out around the poker table as I feel as though my hobby could be a good way to make connections with potential clients from many different industries. I am attempting to make a business card that shows how I apply my strategic creative thinking to design (might need a tag line any thoughts). Im really not sure about the direction that I am going in and any comments are helpful. Thank you.

"Im really not sure about the direction that I am going in"
That should be the first thing you come up with before even sitting down at your computer, dude.
This is way better than the last card, but how attached are you to that brown on the bottom card? Have you tried any other colours?
I rather the font of the bottom card, the layout and that pattern going all the way to the bottom.
All in all a decent, functional card. Nothing to write home about, doesn't really say graphic designer, but good enough to hand around.

Die, Copperplate, DIE! Unless you're a banker, or maybe a lawyer, and even then....
That said, the brown in version 1 is illegible. That's two strikes for that card right there.
Second one is better but only because I can real the words. This will presumably be important if you plan to pass it around at poker games.
But really, Paul. Is this the best you can do?
Are you selling marble countertops or print design? What's with the expensive spot varnish if you aren't even sure about the concept? This screams Back to the Drawing Board to me.

If you're going to keep it this simple, why not do something ballsy like solid black with your name and the info just varnished on instead of a different color?
What I ment by "Im really not sure about the direction that I am going in" Is that I'm not sure if "how I apply my strategic creative thinking to design" is shown effectivly in this design. I am most interested in the problem solving nature of design and I am trying to come up with a card that shows that.( Brain maze is the image I used here). Also I work for a printer and made a deal for the printing so the price is going to be pretty cheap even for spot varnish so thats not a worry. As always thank you for your comments.
