Logo for Body Work Practice

I know, I know. Black-and-white first. But for this client, color is essential. She owns a practice with an Irish Gaelic name that offers various styles of massage and other body work associated with traditional Indian medicine and other Eastern practices. Green is associated with Ireland, of course. Chakras are used in traditional Indian medicine, and violet is the color associated with the highest level of chakra energy, which is why I chose those two colors for the second logo. I stuck with just blue and green in the first one to give her an option. I have used a Celtic knot and stylized lotus blossom to unite the two cultural associations in another way, which would be useful when the logo runs grayscale in a newspaper or the phone book. I'm not sold on this logo. It looks kind of stiff and pasted-together to me. I would love your comments and advice on this. BTW, the green I'm using is much richer and darker than it looks here. So is the violet, actually. Any advice on avoiding that problem would also be appreciated.
ps: I fixed the CMYK problem. Thanks again, jhouse :-)

Regarding the colour..did you export in CMYK?

Ah...I saved as JPEG out of AI so I'll bet that's the problem. Thanks! I have to run out for a while now but when I get back, I'll try fixing that.

the knot looks a bit unbalanced. it has a hand drawn feel to it, but the flaws distract me a bit. I think "wellness services" might look better in lowercase.. it would be a bit less in your face?
i like the concept, but the knot and lotus don't really blend together properly.. why not try styling your lotus in a more Celtic fashion?
you could outline the lotus leaf in the same style as your knot to be a bit more consistant...
I'd go for a bit more detail in the leaf... the outline of something like this would look great in your design i think!

I agree completely with GregSauce, Mara. I think incorporating the lotus into the knot (by using the same style) would bring it together and make it look less "pasted" together. Perhaps even making it look like the knot is forming the lotus would be neat. Also, when I think of lotus flowers, I think of them having lots of petals -- unlike tulips which only have a few.
The font you chose seems a bit "sharp" next to such a flowing mark. I think it's probably the cut edges on the "a" and "r". It seems like you're adding a third style with the type, rather than meeting somewhere in the middle. It's just a guess, but maybe go less stylized on the font choice? I'd have to play around with it to know for sure. Hope that helps, nevertheless.
I love Celtic designs. . . and lotus flowers. What a fun project. :)
"making it look like the knot is forming the lotus would be neat."
yes. i think that's probably the best approach.
i also agree on the typeface. maybe not one of the cliche "celtic" fonts, but something that's closer to that general feel would mix better.
Yes, Greg, I see exactly what you mean about the stiffness of the lotus blossom relative to the knot. That's totally key, I think. I'll play with that tonight.

Change the fonts and i think that remove the gradiants the logo is unbalanced. This is what i think.

God, the more I look at this thing, the more I hate it. It's for my sister-in-law, which I think is putting more pressure on me than I like to experience when I'm working. This seems like something I literally need to take back to the drawing board, pencil & paper, to arrive at the stylized blend of Celtic and Indian or whatever the hell I'm trying to do ! Thanks for your input, everybody. You've set me straight.

Hi Mara. I keep returning to your logo and keep arriving at the same spot: a fleshier circular Celtic/lotus knot; perhaps with the biz name in the centre, forming out from this marriage of cultures? Just a thought....
Good luck.

That's a seriously good idea. Thanks, mama!

I thought you despised gradients, lol.

I do. They have no place in logos. That's one clue to how addled this job has made me! ;-)
