Information on early 20th Century Posters
Fuelrock (79 points) | Thu, 2006-07-27 14:04I've always enjoyed the look of posters used for cabarets and big events such as boxing in the early 20th century. The movie "Moulin Rouge" displays quite a bit of the style I'm referring to. I'd like to emulate it in some poster designs I'm going to do for personal use. Before I get started on the design part of things I'd like to do some research first. Can anyone point me to a good resource for that era? Is it possible to categorize (i.e. Is it art nouveau?) Does any one designer hold the crown as the best practitioner of this style? Did it originate in France? Hopefully there is a single place to find all of this out and it would be awesome if someone here knew that place. Thanks!

As far as I know try Henrry Toulousse-Lautrec, or Alphonse Mucha, this big guy was from Prague but settled in Paris and has a wonderfull style that has being resamble never the same though but I may think he had a good carrer doing wine, tea, cabarets and cigarrets posters, but he is art neveau if you may like him there is a bunch of info on him he is very different and original.
You may love them as I do
