I recently found www.99Designs.com and have to admit I was very impressed with the quality of designs submitted. I also found the art direction to be very well-informed.
Heresy?
Love the logo set at the bottom. Especially the big red butt with the yellow 'house' coming out the orifice.
As an amateur myself, I found the writer to be condescending(GASP, a successful designer being condescending!) and not really helpful direction wise. We all got cut our teeth, we are all not of equal talent but damn we all gotta start somewhere. I found more useful knowledge in the comments of others.
Ironically just yesterday I saw some fly by night tax place with a logo that looked like the only logo I designed that was used as the corp id for the printing company I got my first out of school job at last year. I was a bit annoyed but hell, my logo worked and I'm proud of it.
