O.k im thinking outside the box. i started from the beginning and listened to all my feedback. so this is Black and wite. I chose different fonts mostly san serif. let me know what you think and if your like and then we can talk about color and stuff. my teacher always told me kisss, keep it simple stupid. but i want it to look nice. thank you for all your feedback

The first two are just bad fonts. The font in 3 and 5 is not very legible and 4 is a bit too cutesy to be taken seriously. Mostly what these are lacking is legibility. Start with something clean, simple and easy to read.

Those two things aren't mutually exclusive. :) Like olliesan said, some of these typefaces are just ugly, and they all lack legibility. There's nothing wrong with an all text logo, but I think you need *something* extra to make it more interesting, and unique.
Drop the "4 U".
The font in #1 doesn't make me want to buy anything there. It actually looks like the font from Robocop. Don't rely solely on decorative fonts.
#2 is too hard to read. Can you picture that on a business card? Flooring A you? Please drop the decorative, futuristic fonts. You rely too much on them, less on a sense of creativity.
#3 Isnt that bad, but that 4 in a box....why? WHY?
#4 I'm not even going to comment on this one.
#5 Floorn 9 4 U?
If there is a third post, I suggest doing thumbnails...with a pencil. Sketch out what you think it could look like. Stay aware from the computer and these God forsaken fonts. You're letting them run the design.

thank you for your comments, im actually laughing at oy's comments. you are trying to understand me i bet. the box on the 4 was to represent a square. you know like floor. ut if you cant understand it, then im not doing it right. i did the other flooring logos that everyone commented on and i started over. so i guess what i need to do is sketch out some concepts again and choose normal fonts. thank you again

what program are you using? And are you doing any sketches first?...because right now all you have are some really hideous type faces and not reallly anything emblematic or artistic. Keep trying though. I would suggest doing a LOT of brainstorming on this, because your first ideas just are not working. Try something different other than square=floor and circle=carpet roll. Good luck!
and please do not put such large numbers to indicate each concept. I know these are in the rough stage, but they are still really distracting.

im using illustrator cs3. i had other concepts if you look more at the critiques and i had other comments as well so i started over with some roughs. im just having a difficult time since this is my husbands flooring company and i want it to be so great. i was doing thumbnail sketches with pencil today and nothing is popping up at me, im gonna keep on trying. thanx

I find great ideas often hit when you least expect so you might want to keep pen and paper handy. Also you might find inspiration looking through design books and magazines. Even if it's not related to your project, you may see something that sparks an idea. Best of luck.

Hit you when you least expect it! I get ideas about a project sometimes WHILE working on another one. Inspiration is all around you, you just need to keep an eye out for them. I don't know why but The Alchemist comes to mind. Try word associations, ex: Tiles > square> geometry> math> school> homework> detention> being grounded> parents> children> toys> cute> flowers> plants> pots...well, you get the point.
Also you might want to try actually going to a Home Decor Store or Home Renovation, get in some of the sights and smells, maybe something will hit you there!
I'm talking about something like this:

I'm curious. I see you're from Chicago. Did you go to the Art Insitute?

Hi, i actially went to Saint xavier university. Kathy saunders is the best teacher in typography there. She of course was on sobatical leave when i took graphic design one and type. so i had some teacher fill in for her that basically didnt give a care if we went to class or not. I did have her for graphic design one and i loved every minute of it. im working on some samples. thank you for the inspiration. hopefully ill put them out tomorow for everyone to check. Ruia

That explains some of the trouble we see you're having in this vital area.
