New Tab shortcut
Ivan | Mon, 2005-08-29 14:46I know this is a basic tip, but every second person in my office was unaware of it and they encouraged me to post it as something very useful. So here it goes.
This works in most browsers that support tabbed browsing. To create a new tab you can press Apple-T (Cmd-T) and to open a link from an existing page in a new tab you can hold Apple (Cmd) and click.
I think tabbed browsing is enabled in Firefox by default, but you need to enable it manually in Safari. Just go to Preferences/ Tabs /Enable tabbed browsing to get going. If you're using IE6-, you're out of luck, but it looks like IE7 will have it.

Great tip, I've been using it since I got my PB and it saves me a lot of time actually.

Control + Tab will cycle through open tabs in Firefox.
Left and right to scroll left and right (at least in Safari). I found this accidentally one time while thinking I was in another program.
In Firefox, Cmd+(number of tab you wish to access) works really well.

You can also drag the link to the tab bar if you're too lazy to use your "keyboard" hand

One nice thing with those tabs, is that you can press --- cmd-shift (left or right arrow key) to move between them.

I porsonally use the middle mouse click to open links in new tabs behind the one I'm currently viewing. This helps in that I can click all the links I want to read later from a certain page (i.e. CB RSS feed) and still see what I'm doing in the current page.

I'm used to middle-clicking too, but for some reason FF on Tiger doesn't seem to recongize that for me.
I even made sure middle-click was not assigned to any other thing, and still no dice.

Hey,
Seems like all you guys appreciate shortcuts.
I am a huge fan of the Firefox Mouse Gestures Extension.
I take advantage of as many extensions as I can, if you have yet to check them out you might be pretty impressed!
Back to the mouse gestures; you can basically complete shortcuts through a series of mouse gestures while holding down the right mouse button (PC) and executing different mouse movements. Pretty Slick.
Now that I think of it though, maybe this wouldn't work for all you Mac Users.

Fortunately it does work on Mac, but I could never got used to it.
You can also press CTRL PgUp / PgDown to cycle through open tabs...

since i'm using ff, i got used to have my left hand near the ctrl key so i can do a quick ctrl+t! :D
