The letter sent by Steve to Apple employees:
Team,
I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well. In addition, during the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.
In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.
I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple's day to day operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our board of directors fully supports this plan.
I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.
Steve

Any other shareholders here? Agh...
I'm not.
I own around half of a share just so I can say so :) Best of luck Steve!

my dad bought 50 shares because I told him to the day before apple released their revenue for 4th quarter 2008. stock went up at least 7 pts...so that's a big profit. Now for Palm.....I need to convince him. As much as I hate to say it, that palm pre sure looks like some real good iPhone competition...I'd like to get one (if my iphone breaks, and if Apple's next iPhone sucks, which i doubt it will)
We have i think... around 30 shares. It was at $200 at one point. Up today at $90. BLECK.
Really cold. Is that all you could think of?

last time steve took a break, he came up with all sorts of good ideas...and I'm not worried, I think he'll be fine...if not, tim cook seems to be a great replacement!
I'm not a man, but okay. Yes it's cold and no that isn't all I thought of. :)
it's in the 100's now! i'm kinda excited.
Spoke too soon my friend.
I hope he gets well fast, we really need him to lead the way. Even though I've never met him personally, I admire him and think he is a great person. I want to share with you a video I once saw of him addressing a the graduating class at Stanford 2005: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF8uR6Z6KLc

I think Tim Cook will do great. I can't wait for steve to come back with a whole new set of ideas. Last time he went out on leave, he came up with all kinds of new ideas. I believe the iMac, iPod, etc all came from that leave.
I don't want to start a flame but why do people always use that picture from 1997?!
Because that's the official portrait. :)
... I see... well, I think it's no longer real so, since you're "journalist" and this is a blog and not an Apple officlal press release, maybe you could use a picture taken during the last 10 years :D
Maybe things don't get better with time. :)

While Steve Jobs and I are fierce competitors and often take jabs at each other it is nothing personal at all. I actually consider Steve to be one of my best friends!
When I found out that he will be taking a six month leave of absence from Apple I was quite distrought! Steve wrote to explain:
"Unfortunately, my decision to have Phil deliver the Macworld keynote set off another flurry of rumors about my health, with some even publishing stories of me on my deathbed. I've decided to share something very personal with the Apple community so that we can all relax. As many of you know, I have been losing weight throughout 2008. The reason has been a mystery to me and my doctors."
Join me in including Steve in your prayers, he is indeed a great human being and a worthy competitor.

I am not Steve Ballmer pretending not to be me!
Get well Steve!
Maybe the guy that will temporarily take over will allow other networks to carry the iPhone?? OK, I know. Very selfish of me.
I honestly hope he's just fine and just needs some time away. I don't think that's the case, however, but let's hope he's fine, nevertheless.
