captchas vs spam

seeing a lot more captcha in my posts the last couple of days. totally understand what the deal is, with so much spam. but it's pretty much every comment i make at this point.

i wonder, though, with the whole "pencils" concept, if there isn't a way to exempt posters with more than XXX pencils? those of us unlikely to spam.

I agree. And the problem with the captchas is that most of them are very hard to read. One letter could be another. One day I entered two in wrong and then I was blocked from making comments the whole day!

Yes - agree with gwells. My problem is not reading the captcha - my problem is I'll hit the "save" button and then close the window and lose my post because it didn't post - it went to the captcha for authorization instead. The first day I lost 3 or 4 posts until catching on to what was happening. I'll still drop one here and there if I don't pay attention.

It would be nice to find some happy medium.

What happens is that Mollom Drupal's payed spam filter gradually gets more aggressive. When it's over doing it, we usually reset it and it becomes cool again. But it does let in more spam too. I don't think I want to do that this time, but I will create a white list for regular members like you guys who will be able to post without Mollom checking it.

I implemented the above mentioned feature. You should not be getting captchas. Please report back if it is working ok!
