13 x 19 printer recommendations? Epson 1800 or similar?
shoaf (78 points) | Mon, 2007-09-10 19:37My old Epson 1270 is really showing it's age lately, so I've been looking for a replacement. I've been looking at Epson's Stylus Photo R1800, and it seems to have decent reviews, but I'd be willing to consider other brands (Canon, HP, etc.) if they provide a good value.
> The 13 x 19 paper size is a must.
> I'd like "very good" color accuracy, but I'm not as picky as some.
> I'll give up some speed for image quality.
> My wife will be printing photos for scrapbooking, etc. She wants good detail and no streaks, etc. for that. (The new printer will probably be more important to her than it will be to me.) The archival quality of the inks and paper are also very important to her.
> I do some occasional digital painting, and it would be nice to print these out for hanging, etc. I prefer something more like traditional cold-press watercolor paper for this, but I'd welcome any media recommendations to go with the printer.
> Extra points if it can easily print quickie documents (like driving directions from a web site, etc.) on cheap paper.
Are any of you using Epson's R1800? If so, how well do you like it?
Any other printers that you'd recommend in the "about $500" category?

I've used both the Epson 1800 and the Canon i9900 and both a great machines.
Exceptional color quality and can kick out quite a bit of prints without too much ink.
My favorite papers to print on is the Smart papers. My paper reps at xpedx kelly paper hooked me up with many samples to try first.
